North Carolina Sports Law Litigation Lawyer
THIS IS OLD COPY. We brought groundbreaking litigation on behalf of NCAA student athletes. Our firm was appointed as a co-lead counsel for the class of student-athletes in In re NCAA Student-Athlete Name & Likeness Licensing Litigation. The settlement in that case was the culmination of over five years of litigation which began with The Paynter Law Firm and Hagens Berman filing suit against the NCAA, Electronic Arts, and the Collegiate Licensing Company alleging that those entities had unlawfully used the names and likenesses of NCAA student athletes in sports video games distributed by Electronic Arts. We were also counsel in two other California actions against entities, including CBS Interactive, in which we alleged that the pictures of NCAA student athletes were sold without their consent. We were also one of the lead counsel in antitrust litigation in Indiana against the NCAA. That litigation alleged that NCAA member institutions unlawfully conspired to prohibit their member institutions from offering multiyear athletics scholarships. The NCAA abandoned the rule after we brought suit. For more on that case, see NCAA Athletic-Based Scholarship Litigation.
