Cook County and Chicago Metro Area Attorney Bruce D. Paynter
Qualified Criminal Defense Lawyer in Illinois
Throughout my 30 years of practicing law in the Chicago area, I have handled virtually every type of criminal case from death penalty murders to speeding tickets and everything in between.
After receiving my law degree from Northwestern University in 1976, I served 21 years as an assistant state's attorney in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, the last ten years as a felony trial supervisor. In that office, I had daily experience with the criminal law and its application. I tried more than 60 cases to juries, conducted more than 300 non-jury trials and handled countless motions pertaining to the admissibility of evidence. My trial experience includes 8 capital murder trials. Based on my experience and skills I am AV-rated under Martindale Hubbell’s Peer Review Rating™ process*.
As a supervising prosecutor, I was responsible for the courtroom training and supervision of assistant state's attorneys. I was also asked to assist and train Chicago and suburban police officers in proper investigative techniques and courtroom procedures.
For a three-year period (1997-2000), I utilized my experience and trial abilities with the Chicago law firm of Williams Montgomery & John, Ltd., recognized nationally as one of the leading law firms for complex personal injury, insurance, tort and other civil litigation.
Since 2000, when I returned to the practice of criminal law as a solo practitioner, this diversity of experience and trial skills has continued to make me a recognized leader in my chosen area of concentration. I focus my practice on defending the interests of citizens charged with felonies, misdemeanors, DUIs and traffic offenses.
